Name: Arrow Decorator Crab (Metoporhaphis calcarata)Origin: Atlantic Ocean
+ Benefits to the Aquarium
Decorator Arrow crabs are superb scavengers and will help control detritus, furthermore improving water quality.
+ Interesting Facts
These crabs are called decorator crabs because they willingly attach clippings of sponges, macroalgae and coral polyps to their carapace, head and legs. They will decorate themselves to the point where they will blend in with their surroundings, however once on the move they will resemble a mobile frag. They do not destroy the colonies of coral polyps from which they clip from, and the polyps that they attach remain alive on their back. Unlike the regular decorator crabs, these resemble the arrow crab in appearance.
